Mother’s Day is really important to most of us, it is a day where we can celebrate the ones we love most even if they are no longer with us. Motherhood is one of the hardest jobs ever. As a mother, you create a connection that is so strong that whenever your child is sad, you instantly feel sad, or you are happy when they are happy. Mothers go through so much to make sure their children are well nourished, healthy, clean, and safe. And as children, we don’t repay them enough, so this one day a year is there to say thank you for everything, and we couldn’t do this without you, which is absolutely true!

Mother's Day History

Even though you might not think it, Mother’s Day has history just like every other thing. After Ann Jarvis’s death, her daughter Anna Jarvis wanted to honour her mother’s legacy by creating a national holiday to honour mothers and all their hard work on the second Sunday of May, the day her mother had died. The idea started in America when Anna Jarvis held a small memorial service for her beloved mother on the 12th of May 1907. Shortly after, most places in America were observing the day, and in 1914 the President of the US declared it a national holiday! That just shows how much mothers mean to their children and what stretch they would go to honour their memory. 

Welsh Mother’s Day Traditions

To be perfectly honest, I cannot find any Welsh Mother’s Day traditions, which is honestly quite sad. But there are always other ways to celebrate Mother’s Day that have Welsh connections! If it is a pleasant day, you could take your mother down to your local beach and have a stroll; you could also buy her a love spoon as a gift to show your love. Or even if you really want to spoil your mother, you could take her for a luxurious spa weekend where you can both take a minute and reminisce about the old times.
